Hi. I’d like to introduce you to Scruff The Pooch. Based on the antics of my own elderly Airedale (named Zara) and my niece, Ailsa, the Scruff The Pooch series of books is aimed at toddlers and pre-readers to encourage interest in reading while telling a delightful rhyming story.
Illustrated by the granddaughter of a friend, I self-published the first book, The Pooch With No Fluff at the start of 2020. While Covid brought the project to a halt until the summer of 2021, I have now appeared at local libraries in the Black Country/North Worcestershire area performing readings of the books published to date.
I believe Scruff has something to offer young readers with the aim of introducing youngsters to libraries and the joy of reading. One observation from my public appearances has been the desire for children to want to use libraries, and in many cases, children being introduced to a library for the first time. One little boy was overjoyed to learn that he could visit a library and borrow books for free and you don’t need a password!
