Hi Scruff followers.  I’m Giles, author and creator of Scruff The Pooch.  The desire to write has been in the family over two generations.  My father published his memoirs some years ago and has written numerous books in the field of Malaria and tropical medicine.  However, I’m the first to give it a try in the world of children’s books.

As a trained accountant, writing is far from my usual day to day life.  In fact, I didn’t find my love of reading until I was 40.  Indeed, I am not sure I read more than one or two books in the previous 20 years until a friend bought me “Right Ho, Jeeves” by the wonderful PG Wodehouse.  I went on to read almost every book the great comic writer has written, was spellbound by Dickens, Jane Austin and the Brontë’s, and fell in love with Wilkie Collins and Thomas Hardy, before moving to more contemporary authors.  You can’t beat a good adventure story to while away a dark evening.

This has given me the urge to want to give writing a go for myself.  My advice to anyone wanting to be an author is never to give up but follow your dream.  Literature can be inspirational, educational and fun at what ever the level, be it children’s books, fiction or non-fiction.  There will always be set backs and people telling you it won’t work, but if you believe in something enough, put your faith in it and go for it.

Thanks for visiting Scruff The Pooch
